Where can you get the greatest breakfast in Merida? Or maybe you’re looking for a terrific brunch spot? Check out my selection of the greatest Merida breakfasts and brunches, which includes everything from traditional Yucatecan fare to healthy vegan fare.

15 Best Breakfasts in Merida, Mexico

Soco is the first spot I take out-of-town visitors and the one I would suggest if you just had time for one breakfast in Merida (unfortunately).

Soco is a local bakery that has expanded its bakery offerings into a complete breakfast menu.

My favorite meal is the SOCO version of eggs Benedict, which is served on handmade puff pastry and topped with a hollandaise sauce prepared from the seeds of a regional pumpkin.

If you want a lighter start to your day, consider the vegetarian omelet with roasted veggies and goat cheese. Even though I am not a vegetarian, I prefer this omelet over their ham and cheese omelet since it is so delicious!

Plus, I’m love with their molletes, which I never order at a restaurant since they’re such a basic meal. But it’s cooked with handmade bread at Soco, which makes all the difference!

My coffee-drinking buddies also tell me they have a terrific espresso that is sure to wake you up.

Te Extrao, Extrao

Another of my favorite spots in town, I spent so much time here that I began calling it my workplace. Expect to see modern spins on traditional foods like huevos motuleos and chilaquiles.

International items on the menu include avocado toast, local fruits with granola and honey granita, smoked turkey ham croissant with mascarpone and spinach cream, and French toast.

Te Extrao, Extrao is not only a fantastic breakfast spot, but it is also one of the most fashionable spots in town. In addition to the restaurant, the building has two art galleries and retail space. The refurbishment was done with great care and attention to detail.


Several Places

Mercy is a new discovery for me after moving back to Merida.

Expect worldwide classics like the omnipresent avocado toast, a Croque Monsieur, or the day’s quiche served with a little green salad.

Local favorites include chilaquiles and cazuelita de huevos, a tiny casserole dish packed with eggs, asparagus, Serrano ham, toasted bread, and parmesan cheese before being baked.

The bacon hot cakes piqued my interest, and the French toast looked delectable if you had a sweet appetite.

Merci also serves vegetarian choices, such as a green omelet with spinach, zucchini, pesto, and avocado.

On Sunday, I had brunch at Merci. I had the lobster roll, which was a butter brioche bread covered with a mayonnaise flavored with local chile and liberally stuffed with bits of lobster.

That made for a truly sumptuous brunch! Yet, I must confess that it was tough to pick between the lobster roll and the day’s breakfast special: macaroni and cheese cooked with shrimp. It only offers me another motivation to return as soon as possible!

Merci offers breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday through Friday, and brunch from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The Eye of Water

Imagine my astonishment when I realized that one of my favorite brunch restaurants in Mexico City had established a location in Merida!

It’s almost like coming into a market with the walls covered with fresh fruit, but also gives you an indication of what to expect- a fresh and nutritious lunch.

Local staples like molletes and chilaquiles are on the menu, but there are also lighter alternatives like a breakfast bowl with brussel sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, a local cactus, an egg, and a balsamic drizzle!

To go with your breakfast, choose one of their freshly crafted juices. They offer an extensive menu that includes everything from before and post-workout drinks to detox mixes and even an anti-aging power juice!

Their first Merida store is on the north side, but let’s hope they establish one in Centro soon! That being said, it’s worth the trip to the north side!

The Barrio

I don’t believe you can go wrong with whatever you eat at El Barrio, and I think I’ve tried everything on the menu!

The huevos rancheros and chilaquiles, as well as the breakfast sandwich, were delicious. The gemelos (two biscuits coated in a sauce made from local chili pepper, spinach, and sausage) or the enchiladas enmoladas- packed with chicken and smothered in a thick mol sauce- were the dishes I requested the most!

El Barrio’s meals are all crafted with fresh ingredients and herbs, and the handmade salsas are some of the finest in town!

Blanco Manjar

Manhar Blanco is a lunchtime favorite of mine, but they also offer a fantastic morning menu. Most of their morning menu is built of dishes that include local products such as longaniza Valladolid (a renowned sausage from a neighboring town) and chaya, a superfood that is sometimes likened to spinach even though chaya is really more healthy.

You may also discover their rendition of other local cuisines as well as alternatives like as hotcakes and omelets and some amazing bargains on bundles that include tea or juice and fruit as well.

Manjar Blanco

When you arrive, take a seat on their magnificent terrace and see the beautiful hanging vines and unique artwork exhibited on the walls as you wait for your menus.

I love a good mole, so I’ve had the enmoladas numerous times, which are tortillas in a dry roasted tomato sauce topped with a dark mole and fresh veggies like tomatoes and avocados.

Be sure to inquire about their agua del día, which are flavored waters, generally with fruit. The chaya and pineapple one is my favorite.

Additionally, keep an eye out for their delicacies, such as tortas ahogadas (drowned sandwiches), which are hard to come by in this region of Mexico.

This is also a coffee lover’s paradise; my caffeine-addicted pals appreciated the tableside presentation of their drip coffee.

Chocolate and roses

Roses & Xocolate offers an extremely lovely and soothing ambiance, as well as responsive employees. And, although it is a little more expensive than other Merida breakfast spots, it is well worth the visit.

Begin your dinner with a selection from their bread basket; the chocolate croissant is a popular option. I really like their chilaquiles verde, which include a wonderful salsa verde made with fresh herbs and roasted tomatillos.

Since it is a little more premium, this is a perfect spot to invite out-of-town friends to have one of Merida’s greatest breakfasts.

Chilakillers Breakfast Meals & Treats

Chiakillers is a fantastic breakfast spot in the middle of downtown Merida. The speciality here, as the name suggests, is chilaquiles.

You may choose the ingredients for your own custom-made chilaquiles here. I added shredded chicken, eggs, avocado, and the hottest salsa they had. They provide a variety of delectable and freshly produced salsas to select from. They are particularly well-known for their freshly produced juices, which go wonderfully with breakfast.

Canela, Maz, and Cilantro

For a healthy breakfast, this is one of the best options in town. There are various vegetarian and vegan alternatives, as well as healthier adaptations of staples like whole wheat pancakes, at Maiz, Canela y Cilantro.

The service and ambiance are both informal and comfortable, and the open kitchen allows you to see the cuisine being cooked, making it feel like you’re visiting your mother or grandmother’s home. The eatery also has a tiny coffee shop where you may get your caffeine fix. Try the café de olla, a coffee popular in other regions of Mexico but difficult to get in Merida.

Maz, Canela, and Cilantro

Cultural Bistro

The artwork and flora featured throughout Bistro Culturals give the eatery a modern ambiance. In Merida, the environment is quite relaxed and friendly for an early breakfast. I was in the mood for comfort food, so I strayed from conventional Mexican fare and ordered a Croque Monsieur. It was filling, and the cheese was wonderfully toasted—just as it should be!

Additional menu items include omelet variants, Croque sandwich variations, egg dishes, and croissants. You might also choose one of their paquetes if you like.


Several Places

Siqueff is a stylish restaurant that has been serving Yucatecan and Lebanese food since the 1930s. The family-owned firm puts a lot of love into their meals, combining two delectable cuisines to produce delicacies that have kept its customers coming back for years.

Some of their unique recipes include the Arab eggs with kafta which are eggs cooked in a skillet with olive oil, oregano, kafta, labane, and pita bread. They also serve chilaquiles and handmade pancakes.

Pan and Kf.fe

A fantastic bakery and coffee business housed in a beautifully renovated structure, with a limited but well-executed weekend brunch menu. What isn’t to like?

To top it all off, it’s located near Santa Ana Park, which is my favorite spot in Merida!

The bakery serves all of your favorites, such as flaky, buttery croissants, quiches, and even a pizza that was so popular that it was added to the daily menu!

On weekends, their brunch menu has steel-cut oats, a grilled cheese croissant, poached egg toast baked with their own bread, and their legendary pizza! Who doesn’t like pizza for breakfast?

San Angel House

Casa San Angel, located in the same hotel, is available to the public and serves a delicious breakfast. I generally have the huevos divorciados, which are identical to huevos rancheros except that they come with two salsas and are served on corn tortillas with all the toppings.

You might also sample their huevos motulenos, which are well-known for being delicious.

The restaurant offers a wonderful environment as well. Hand-painted walls, gorgeous arches, and plants abound throughout the lobby. The architecture is worth seeing on its own.

Pilgreens is one of the finest locations in town for vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and raw vegan alternatives. Mediterranean poached eggs with hummus, waffle sandwiches, acai bowls, and matcha hotcakes are among the menu items.

Pilgreen also serves freshly squeezed juices, smoothies, and frappes.

Mansin Mrida’s El Bistro

El Bistro is an excellent place to try if you want to get a sense of Yucatan culture. The terrace is open and perfect for people watching, as you can see people strolling by on good summer days as you relax and have a delicious breakfast.

They include all of your favorite breakfast alternatives, including Mexican and Western food. Mansion Merida is one of my favorite Merida restaurants for omelets since they are usually nicely prepared.
