During my most recent trip to Bucharest, the capital city of Romania, I made it a mission of mine to locate the city’s most outstanding breakfast establishment. You’ll find everything from salty to sweet alternatives on this list, as well as a number of your all-time favorite traditional breakfast foods and a couple that you probably haven’t tried before.

During your time in Bucharest, be sure not to skip out on the following opportunities to get more familiar with the city (and hurry up while you still can!)

The Best Breakfast Bucharest Has To Offer

Fior di Latte

Bulevardul Primăverii 19-21 // 0784 420 555

A number of my Bucharest-based friends have recommended Fior de Latte to me as their top choice for breakfast among the restaurants in the city. On the menu, some of the most popular items are omelettes made to order and eggs Benedict topped with salmon. I would suggest ordering their truffled omelet if you are in the mood for something particularly decadent.

For those of you who prefer a later start to the day, Fior de Latte keeps their breakfast menu available throughout the entire day.

Pio Bistro

Strada Puțul lui Zamfir 2 // 0770 328 251

Pio Bistro is one of the more recent restaurants to have set up shop in this city. Not only was the restaurant’s menu impressive, but so was the phenomenal service that my companion and I received while we were there. The menu featured traditional dishes prepared in a manner befitting a more elegant dining experience, and it made an effort to use ingredients sourced as locally as possible.

The matcha pancakes piled high with fresh fruit are so popular that customers can’t get enough of them.

or my favorite, the skaksuka

Simbio

Strada Negustori 26 // 0756 746 246

Another fantastic location to start your day off right in Bucharest is Simbio. This restaurant is ideal for having Sunday brunch due to the fact that it serves breakfast all day long. The open kitchen is another aspect of the restaurant that appeals to me.

Fresh fruit is placed on top of the French toast, and then it is finished off with a generous drizzle of the restaurant’s wild berry sauce.

If you’re not in the mood for something sweet in the morning, you can also get a full English breakfast or granola bowls, which are both great options for people who want a healthier start to the day.

Frudisiac

Intrarea Bitolia 4 // 021 231 0411

The stunning creations by Frudisiac, which are influenced by Scandinavian design, beg to be shared on Instagram. However, the team doesn’t just put thought into the plating of their food; all of their food is extremely delicious, and their pancakes are some of the most popular in town.

I really enjoy the savory toast options that they offer, such as the one with ham, egg, and pear.

or this gorgeous toast covered in fig preserves and cheese.

If you aren’t in the mood for designer toast for breakfast, they also have other options such as soups, salads, and shaksuka on their menu.

Chocolat

Strada Episcopiei 6 // 0743 777 807

You have the option of having either a sweet or savory breakfast when you dine at Chocolat. I went with the savory option, but I was almost unable to finish it!

A small salad, eggs cooked to order, bacon, cheese, tomato, fruit, toast with butter, and your choice of tea or coffee are all part of the breakfast spread.

Be sure to satiate your appetite for this one!

Dianei 4

Strada Dianei 4 // 0745 208 186

Not only does Dianei 4 have one of the best breakfast menus in all of Bucharest, but the restaurant’s atmosphere is also one of the best in the city. The atmosphere brings to mind a ruin bar in Budapest.

The restaurant is open every day from 10 to 3, and during that time they serve a brunch that includes dishes such as sun-dried tomato omelets, huevos rancheros, and this sausage and egg breakfast that is guaranteed to cure a hangover.

Za Lokal

Calea Victoriei 214 // 031 425 3110

At Za Lokal, there will not be any menus waiting for you at your table. Instead, ask the waiter to bring the large chalkboard to your table or look for it in the main dining area. At that establishment, the breakfast menu features sweet and savory waffles and pancakes, in addition to a topping list that is both inventive and frequently updated.

If you are unsure of what to order, go for the waffle trio because each waffle comes topped with a different combination of toppings that you choose! If the weather is nice, make a reservation to eat outside on the patio; this is the best spot in the restaurant to people watch!

MÀ Bistro

50A, Strada Constantin D. Aricescu 50 // 0741 427 777

You get the impression that you’re eating in someone’s home rather than in a high-end establishment due to the open kitchen concept and the fact that there are only 10 tables in this small restaurant.

I went there with a friend for brunch, and I can’t wait to go back so that I can sample more of their inventive menu items.

The menu is updated frequently, but you shouldn’t miss out on these ricotta fritters because they come served with yogurt, mint, and an orange syrup made in house.

There are also other options available, such as omelets, avocado toast, and yogurt bowls.
